Following the displacement of thousands of foreign nationals after the wave of xenophobic violence in May 2008, PASSOP was actively involved in the monitoring, advocacy and negotiations over a number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Safety Sites in the Western Cape.
In 2009-2010, PASSOP was responsible for monitoring the full cycle, from inception to closure, of both the Blue Waters and the De Doorns IDP Sites and was instrumental in negotiating the camp closure settlement agreement on behalf of the displaced in the De Doorns Site. The reports from those different monitoring efforts can be downloaded here: (Blue Waters and De Doorns). With the funding of OSISA, PASSOP also compiled a monitoring manual, included as the second part of the De Doorns report, that outlines the guidelines and standards for future monitoring projects.
